Phone Overview
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 was announced on July 10, 2024 and released on July 24, 2024. It is a book-style foldable: a 7.6-inch main display folds inward to a 12.1 mm thick body, and a 6.3-inch cover display is on the outside.
It uses the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset with 12GB of RAM and a triple rear camera led by a 50MP main sensor. Network bands and SIM layouts differ between the International, USA and China versions (model numbers SM-F956B, SM-F956U, SM-F9560 and others).
Performance and Processor
The Fold 6 uses the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 (SM8650-AC, 4 nm), with one 3.39GHz Cortex-X4, three 3.1GHz Cortex-A720, two 2.9GHz Cortex-A720 and two 2.2GHz Cortex-A520 cores, plus an Adreno 750 GPU at 1GHz.
All versions have 12GB of RAM, with 256GB, 512GB or 1TB of UFS 4.0 storage and no card slot. SpecHub has not run benchmarks on this phone.
Display Experience
The main display is a 7.6-inch foldable Dynamic LTPO AMOLED 2X panel at 1856 x 2160 pixels (about 374 pixels per inch) with a 120Hz refresh rate and HDR10+. A peak brightness of 2,600 nits is listed, which is a listed figure and not a SpecHub measurement. GSMArena notes the unfolded front is plastic.
The 6.3-inch cover display is also a Dynamic LTPO AMOLED 2X panel (968 x 2376 pixels, 120Hz, listed at 2,600 nits peak) protected by Gorilla Glass Victus 2.
Camera Experience
The rear cameras are a 50MP main (f/1.8, 1/1.57-inch sensor, optical stabilisation), a 10MP telephoto with 3x optical zoom and optical stabilisation, and a 12MP ultrawide (f/2.2, 123 degrees).
Two selfie cameras are listed: a 4MP under-display camera inside and a 10MP camera on the cover. Video goes up to 8K at 30fps, with 4K at 60fps and HDR10+ listed. These are listed capabilities; SpecHub has not tested photo or video quality.
Battery and Charging
The battery is 4,400mAh, with 25W wired charging (QC2.0, listed as 50% in 30 minutes), 15W wireless charging and 4.5W reverse wireless charging. The 50% figure is a listed claim and not a SpecHub test.
SpecHub has not run battery-life tests, so no endurance claim is made here.
Software and Features
The phone launched with Android 14 and One UI 6.1.1, and GSMArena lists up to 7 major Android upgrades. Connectivity includes 5G, tri-band Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.3 with aptX HD, NFC, Ultra Wideband and a USB Type-C 3.2 port.
Other listed features are stylus support, Samsung DeX, Circle to Search, a side-mounted fingerprint sensor and stereo speakers tuned by AKG. It is rated IP48, which means water resistance is listed but dust protection is limited to particles larger than 1 mm. There is no 3.5mm jack and no FM radio.
Who Should Consider This Phone?
People who want a large tablet-style inner screen in a phone, with a flagship chipset, a 3x telephoto and multitasking features such as Samsung DeX, will find the most to like.
Who May Prefer Another Phone?
Buyers who want a lighter phone (it weighs 239 g), a larger battery, full dust protection or a headphone jack may prefer another phone. Buyers who prefer a compact clamshell should look at the Galaxy Z Flip 6.
Editorial Verdict
On paper, the Fold 6 offers a flagship chipset, a 7.6-inch inner display and a capable camera set in a foldable body, with weight, IP48 and a 4,400mAh battery as the main trade-offs. It suits people who want a pocketable tablet-style device and accept the price and weight that come with it.
