Phone Overview
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 was announced on July 22, 2026 as Samsung's wide-format foldable. It has a 7.6-inch 4:3 inner screen and a 5.5-inch 10:16 cover screen, and Samsung describes it as its lightest Fold yet at 201 g.
It sits next to the larger Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, which has an 8.0-inch inner screen, a 6.5-inch cover screen, a 200MP main camera and a 5,000mAh battery. Both use the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy chipset. Some specifications of the Fold8, including its water and dust rating and colours, are not listed here because only one source gave them.
Performance and Processor
The chipset is the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy, with two Oryon V3 Phoenix L cores at up to 4.74GHz and six Phoenix M cores at about 3.62GHz, plus an Adreno 840 GPU. RAM is 12GB or 16GB depending on the version, with 256GB, 512GB or 1TB of storage.
SpecHub has not run benchmarks or thermal tests, so no performance claim is made here.
Display Experience
The inner display is a 7.6-inch foldable LTPO Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel at 2448 x 1848 pixels (about 404 pixels per inch), 120Hz and HDR10+. A peak brightness of 3,000 nits is listed, which is a listed figure and not a SpecHub measurement.
The 5.5-inch cover screen has a 10:16 shape (1248 x 1972 pixels, 120Hz), designed to be wider than the cover screens of earlier Folds. Samsung's own page describes the shape as optimized for scrolling and immersive content.
Camera Experience
Samsung lists dual 50MP wide and ultrawide rear cameras. There is no telephoto lens and no 200MP sensor; those are exclusive to the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra. Other camera details, such as apertures, video modes and selfie cameras, were not confirmed from more than one source and are not listed.

Battery and Charging
The battery is a 4,800mAh silicon-carbon cell with 45W wired and 20W wireless charging. Reverse wireless charging was not confirmed. SpecHub has not run battery-life tests, so no endurance claim is made here.
Software and Features
The phone runs Android 17. A software-update period for the Fold8 specifically was not confirmed from the sources used here. Water and dust resistance, colours and connectivity versions were also not confirmed and are left out rather than guessed.
Who Should Consider This Phone?
People who prefer a shorter, wider foldable for reading, video and browsing, and who want a lighter body and a lower price than the Ultra, will find the most to like.
Who May Prefer Another Phone?
Buyers who want a telephoto camera, a 200MP main sensor, a bigger battery or a larger inner screen should look at the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra. Buyers who want a more conventional tall form factor may prefer the Ultra or the Galaxy Z Fold 6.
Editorial Verdict
On paper, the Fold8 trades camera hardware and a little battery for a new wide shape, a lower weight and a lower price than the Ultra. It suits people who care more about screen shape and weight than camera range.
