Editorial Overview
This is an editorial analysis of the specifications listed on this page. It is not based on SpecHub lab testing, so it makes no claims about benchmarks, battery life or camera results. Manufacturer lab figures are not reproduced here.
Phone Overview
The iPhone 16 is the standard model of Apple's 2024 lineup. It keeps the 6.1-inch size of the iPhone 15 but adds the Action button, a dedicated Camera Control button and a newer chip. It suits people who want an up-to-date iPhone without moving to a Pro model.
Performance and Processor
It uses the Apple A18, a 3 nm chip with a six-core CPU and a five-core GPU. Independent sources report 8GB of RAM, up from the 6GB reported for the iPhone 15; Apple does not publish this figure. Storage starts at 128GB and there is no card slot. SpecHub has not benchmarked the phone.
Display Experience
The 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display has 1179 x 2556 pixels and a fixed 60Hz refresh rate. Apple rates it for up to 2,000 nits of peak outdoor brightness. The Dynamic Island is retained. A higher refresh rate is not offered on this model.
Camera Experience
The rear setup is a 48MP main camera plus a 12MP ultrawide camera, with no telephoto lens. The front camera is 12MP. The Camera Control button gives quick access to the camera and its settings. SpecHub has not tested image quality, and detailed lens figures are not listed here because they were not verified.
Battery and Charging
Independent sources report a 3561 mAh battery, which Apple does not officially publish. This is larger than the 3349 mAh reported for the iPhone 15. Charging speeds are not listed here because they could not be verified for this model. We have no endurance tests.
Software and Features
The phone launched with iOS 18 and supports Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.3, NFC and a USB-C port. It has Face ID, the Action button and Camera Control. SIM options vary by market, so check the model number for your region.
Who Should Consider This Phone?
Buyers who want a compact, recent iPhone with Wi-Fi 7 and the new camera button, and who do not need a telephoto lens or a 120Hz screen, are the main audience.
Who May Prefer Another Phone?
People who want a smoother ProMotion display or a telephoto camera should look at a Pro model. Those who want a larger screen and battery can consider the iPhone 16 Plus, which is a separate phone.
Editorial Verdict
The iPhone 16 is a sensible everyday iPhone with a newer chip, more RAM than the iPhone 15 and two extra buttons. Its limits are the 60Hz display and the missing telephoto lens.
