The Pixel 8 Pro is Google's 2023 flagship, released on October 12, 2023 at $999 in the US. It combines a 6.7-inch LTPO display, 12GB of RAM and a three-camera system including a 5x telephoto lens. It suits buyers who want the most capable Pixel of that generation.
The phone uses the Google Tensor G3 (4 nm) with 12GB of RAM and storage of 128GB to 1TB. Google promises seven years of OS and security updates. SpecHub has not benchmarked the phone.
The 6.7-inch LTPO OLED display has 1344 x 2992 pixels and an adaptive 1-120Hz refresh rate, with 1,600 nits for HDR and up to 2,400 nits peak. That is brighter than the 2,000 nits peak of the standard Pixel 8, and an Always-On display is supported.
The rear cameras are a 50MP main with optical stabilisation, a 48MP ultrawide and a 48MP telephoto with 5x optical zoom. The front camera is 10.5MP. SpecHub has not tested image quality.
The battery is 5050 mAh with 30W wired charging and 23W Qi wireless charging, plus Battery Share reverse wireless charging. We have no endurance tests.
The phone launched with Android 14 and supports Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.3, NFC, Ultra Wideband and a USB-C 3.2 port. It has face unlock and an in-screen fingerprint sensor, and is rated IP68.
Buyers who want a long zoom, a bright display and many years of updates in a Pixel will find it a good match.
People who want a smaller phone should consider the Pixel 8. Those who want a newer Tensor chip should consider the Pixel 9 Pro or later.
The Pixel 8 Pro offers a bright LTPO display, a 5x telephoto camera and long software support. Its size, weight and price are the trade-offs.
