The original Google Pixel Fold was Google's first foldable phone, announced on May 10, 2023 and released on June 27, 2023 at $1,799 in the US. It has a 7.6-inch inner display and a 5.8-inch cover screen. It is now an older foldable that has been replaced by the Pixel 9 Pro Fold and Pixel 10 Pro Fold.
The phone uses the Google Tensor G2 (5 nm) with 12GB of RAM and 256GB or 512GB of storage. There is no memory card slot. SpecHub has not benchmarked the phone.
The inner display is a 7.6-inch foldable OLED at 1840 x 2208 pixels with a 120Hz refresh rate and HDR10+. The cover display is a 5.8-inch OLED at 1080 x 2092 pixels, also at 120Hz, with Gorilla Glass Victus protection.
The rear cameras are a 48MP main (f/1.7, optical stabilisation), a 10.8MP ultrawide and a 10.8MP telephoto with 5x optical zoom. The front camera is 10MP. SpecHub has not tested image quality.
The battery is 4821 mAh with 21W wired charging and 8W wireless charging. We have no endurance tests.
The phone launched with Android 13. It is rated IPX8, which covers water but not dust, and supports a Nano-SIM and an eSIM.
Buyers who want an inexpensive entry into foldables and are comfortable with an older chip and shorter remaining support may find it appealing at a secondhand price.
People who want newer chips, faster charging, a lighter body or dust resistance should look at the Pixel 9 Pro Fold or Pixel 10 Pro Fold.
The Pixel Fold introduced Google's book-style foldable with a wide cover screen and a telephoto camera. Its weight, slow charging and age are the main limits today.
