This is an editorial analysis of the specifications listed on this page. It is not based on SpecHub lab testing, so it makes no claims about benchmarks, battery life or camera results. Manufacturer lab figures are not reproduced here.
The iPhone 14 Pro is the compact Pro model of Apple's 2022 lineup, released on September 16, 2022 at $999 in the US. It introduced the Dynamic Island, the Always-On display and the first 48MP main camera on an iPhone. It was aimed at buyers who wanted the most capable standard-size iPhone. It is now an older phone.
The iPhone 14 Pro uses the Apple A16 Bionic (4 nm) with a six-core CPU and a five-core GPU. Independent sources report 6GB of RAM, which Apple does not publish. Storage is 128GB, 256GB, 512GB or 1TB with no card slot. SpecHub has not benchmarked the phone.
The 6.1-inch LTPO Super Retina XDR OLED display has 1179 x 2556 pixels (about 460 ppi) and an adaptive 1-120Hz refresh rate. Apple rates it for 1,000 nits typical, 1,600 nits peak in HDR and up to 2,000 nits outdoors. The Always-On display and the Dynamic Island, a pill-shaped cutout that shows live activities, were new to the iPhone.
The rear cameras are a 48MP main (f/1.78, sensor-shift stabilization), a 12MP telephoto (f/2.8, 3x optical zoom) and a 12MP ultrawide (f/2.2, 120 degrees), plus a LiDAR scanner. The front camera is 12MP with autofocus (f/1.9). Apple lists 4K video up to 60 fps, Cinematic mode and Action mode. SpecHub has not tested image quality.
Apple does not publish battery capacity. Independent sources report 3200 mAh, slightly smaller than the 3279 mAh reported for the iPhone 14. Apple states about 50% in 30 minutes with a 20W or higher adapter, which is not included. Wireless charging supports MagSafe at up to 15W and Qi at up to 7.5W. We have no endurance tests, and an older battery may hold less charge today.
The phone launched with iOS 16 and supports 5G, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.3, NFC and Ultra Wideband. It has Face ID, Crash Detection, Emergency SOS via satellite and an IP68 rating up to 6 metres for 30 minutes. SIM options differ by market, with US models eSIM only.
People who want a compact phone with a high-resolution main camera, a telephoto lens and a 120Hz Always-On display will find it a good match.
Buyers who want the biggest screen and battery should look at the iPhone 14 Pro Max. Those who do not need Pro features can choose the iPhone 14.
The iPhone 14 Pro brought the Dynamic Island, an Always-On display and a 48MP camera to the compact Pro. Its modest reported battery and Lightning port are the main limits.
