Phone Overview
The iPhone 11 was Apple's lower-priced model of the 2019 lineup, released on September 20, 2019 at $699 in the US. It replaced the iPhone XR with a second rear camera and a newer chip, while keeping an LCD display and a wide range of colours. It was aimed at buyers who wanted Face ID and a strong camera without paying for the Pro models. It is now an older phone.
Performance and Processor
The Apple A13 Bionic is a 7 nm chip with a six-core CPU and a four-core GPU. Apple does not publish RAM, but independent sources report 4GB. Storage is 64GB, 128GB or 256GB with no card slot. SpecHub has not benchmarked the phone, and as a 2019 chip it is much older than current ones.
Display Experience
The 6.1-inch Liquid Retina display is an IPS LCD with 828 x 1792 pixels (about 326 ppi) and a 60Hz refresh rate. Apple rates it for 625 nits typical brightness. It is not an OLED, so black levels and contrast are lower than on the iPhone 11 Pro.
Camera Experience
The rear cameras are a 12MP main (f/1.8, optical stabilisation) and a 12MP ultrawide (f/2.4, 120 degrees). There is no telephoto lens, which the Pro models add. The front camera is 12MP. Apple lists 4K video at up to 60 fps. SpecHub has not tested image quality.
Battery and Charging
Apple does not publish battery capacity. Independent sources report 3110 mAh. Apple states that the phone can reach about 50% in 30 minutes with an 18W or higher adapter, but only a 5W adapter is in the box. Wireless charging uses Qi at up to 7.5W. We have no endurance tests, and an older battery may hold less charge after years of use.
Software and Features
The phone launched with iOS 13. It supports Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC and Ultra Wideband, and it has Face ID and IP68 resistance (up to 2 metres for 30 minutes). It uses a Lightning port and does not support 5G. SIM options are a Nano-SIM and an eSIM.
Who Should Consider This Phone?
Buyers who want an inexpensive, compact iPhone with Face ID and a good camera, and who do not need 5G or an OLED screen, may still find it a fit at a secondhand price.
Who May Prefer Another Phone?
People who want 5G, a brighter OLED display, a telephoto lens or USB-C should look at a newer iPhone. Those who want a longer software-support horizon should also choose a more recent model.
Editorial Verdict
The iPhone 11 is a well-rounded older iPhone with Face ID, IP68 and a dual-camera set. Its LCD, 60Hz display, Lightning port and lack of 5G show its age.
