This is an editorial analysis of the specifications listed on this page. It is not based on SpecHub lab testing, so it makes no claims about benchmarks, battery life or camera results. Manufacturer lab figures are not reproduced here.
The iPhone 14 Plus replaced the mini in Apple's 2022 lineup, released on October 7, 2022 at $899 in the US. It has the same chip and cameras as the iPhone 14 in a 6.7-inch body with a much larger reported battery. It was aimed at buyers who wanted a big screen and long battery life without the Pro price. It is now an older phone.
The Apple A15 Bionic (5 nm) has a six-core CPU and a five-core GPU. Independent sources report 6GB of RAM, which Apple does not publish. Storage is 128GB, 256GB or 512GB with no card slot. SpecHub has not benchmarked the phone.
The 6.7-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display has 1284 x 2778 pixels (about 458 ppi) and a 60Hz refresh rate. Apple rates it for 800 nits typical and up to 1,200 nits peak in HDR. The notch remains, and the larger panel suits video and reading.
The rear cameras are a 12MP main (f/1.5, sensor-shift stabilization) and a 12MP ultrawide (f/2.4, 120 degrees), with no telephoto lens. The front camera is 12MP with autofocus (f/1.9). Apple lists 4K video up to 60 fps with Dolby Vision, a Cinematic mode and Action mode. SpecHub has not tested image quality.
Apple does not publish battery capacity. Independent sources report 4325 mAh, compared with 3279 mAh for the iPhone 14. Apple states about 50% in 30 minutes with a 20W or higher adapter, which is not included. Wireless charging supports MagSafe at up to 15W and Qi at up to 7.5W. We have no endurance tests, and an older battery may hold less charge today.
The phone launched with iOS 16 and supports 5G, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.3, NFC and Ultra Wideband. It has Face ID, Crash Detection, Emergency SOS via satellite and an IP68 rating up to 6 metres for 30 minutes. SIM options differ by market, with US models eSIM only.
People who want a big screen and strong battery life from an older iPhone, without paying for a Pro Max, will find it a good fit.
Buyers who want a 120Hz display, the Dynamic Island or a telephoto lens should look at the iPhone 14 Pro Max or a newer model. Those who prefer a smaller body can consider the iPhone 14.
The iPhone 14 Plus pairs a large 6.7-inch screen with the longest-lasting battery in the standard iPhone 14 range. Its 60Hz display and A15 chip are the main limits.
