The iPhone 15 Plus is the large standard model of Apple's 2023 lineup, announced on September 12, 2023 and released on September 22 at $899 in the US. It brought the Dynamic Island, a 48MP main camera and USB-C to the big-screen non-Pro iPhone. It was aimed at buyers who wanted a large screen and long battery life without paying for a Pro Max. It is now an older phone.
The Apple A16 Bionic is a 4 nm chip with a six-core CPU (two cores at up to 3.46 GHz) and a five-core GPU. Independent sources report 6GB of RAM, which Apple does not publish. Storage is 128GB, 256GB or 512GB with no card slot. SpecHub has not benchmarked the phone.
The 6.7-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display has 1290 x 2796 pixels (about 460 ppi) and a 60Hz refresh rate. Apple rates it for 1,000 nits typical and up to 2,000 nits peak outdoors. The Dynamic Island replaces the notch. ProMotion and an always-on mode are limited to the Pro models.
The rear cameras are a 48MP main (f/1.6, sensor-shift stabilization) and a 12MP ultrawide (f/2.4, 120 degrees). There is no telephoto lens, and the 2x option crops the main sensor. The front camera is 12MP with autofocus. Apple lists 4K video up to 60 fps with Dolby Vision. SpecHub has not tested image quality.
Apple does not publish battery capacity. Independent sources report 4383 mAh, compared with 3349 mAh reported for the iPhone 15. Apple states about 50% in 30 minutes with a 20W or higher adapter, which is not included. Wireless charging supports MagSafe and Qi2 at up to 15W. We have no endurance tests.
The phone launched with iOS 17 and supports Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.3, NFC and second-generation Ultra Wideband. It has Face ID, Crash Detection, Emergency SOS via satellite and an IP68 rating. The USB-C port supports USB 2 speeds and DisplayPort output.
People who want a big OLED screen and a long reported battery in a mainstream iPhone, and who do not need ProMotion or a telephoto lens, will find it a good fit.
Buyers who want a 120Hz display, a telephoto lens or fast USB transfers should look at the iPhone 15 Pro Max or a newer model. Those who prefer a smaller phone can consider the iPhone 15.
The iPhone 15 Plus gives a large screen, USB-C and a strong reported battery at a lower price than the Pro Max. Its 60Hz display and lack of a telephoto lens are the main limits.
